Process

I create my designs on multiple panels. I’ve been fascinated with the look of multiple images for a long time and feel they amplify the power of my ideas.

This focus came about partly because I would put student work up on a display board and the impact of the multiple pieces arranged together was inspiring for everyone to see.

My three-dimensional artwork is made using a layering of corrugated cardboard and other materials in a raised relief. I use acrylic paint and tissue paper decoupage as a finishing surface to add color and texture to my designs.

Art creation is about asking questions, exploring ideas and doing the hard work of making a concept meet one’s visualization in a tangible form that’s coherent and beautiful.

I believe in design, engineering and craftsmanship and focus on all three in my finished works. 

In the past, I’ve worked in the mediums of drawing, painting and printmaking.

My mixed media exploration allows me to literally “break the surface.”

I’m having fun with this medium and have lots of future ideas.

Background

Born and raised in Huntington, NY, I earned a BFA from Cornell University and Master’s in Education from UNH.

For 28 years, I taught art at Souhegan High School in Amherst, NH. Souhegan, on the forefront of educational reform, has helped me bring creative and cutting-edge practices into both the classroom and my own studio.

I was the 2013–14 New Hampshire Art Educator of the Year.

Currently, I serve as the Awards Chair of the New Hampshire Art Educators Association. A member since 2006, I’ve held the posts of President, Past President and Conference Chair.

I’ve presented workshops at the NHAEA fall conference and the NAEA national conference.

Happily married with one grown son, besides art exploration, my biggest passion is regular figure skating for over 30 years.
